Miles Offgrid is a technical resource and media site created by Miles to document DIY offgrid engineering. It focuses on the "how-to" behind 4x4 builds, solar integration, and high-tech camping setups that make long-term, remote travel comfortable and connected.
This is a DIY-focused platform run by Miles. While Miles has a professional engineering background, the content here is about sharing personal projects, testing gear in the field, and showing the reality of building out rigs for the backwoods.
The "Focus Fleet" mainly features the Toyota 4Runner, Lexus GX, and Chevy Tahoe. However, the engineering principles Miles applies to solar and battery systems can be adapted to almost any 4x4 or overlanding rig.
We rely heavily on Starlink satellite operations and specialized communications gear. Miles documents the specific solutions used to keep high-speed internet running even when we are hundreds of miles from the nearest cell tower.
Currently, the site is dedicated to content, reviews, and project documentation. Miles provides the technical blueprints and honest reviews of the gear we use—like solar panels and battery upgrades—to help you make informed decisions for your own builds.
It is our core philosophy. We believe in enjoying the beauty of BLM lands and national parks while leaving no trace. Our goal is to leave every campsite in better condition than we found it, ensuring these trails stay open and clean for the next group of explorers.
The channel is launching soon! It will feature deep dives into Miles’s technical builds, gear stress tests, and vlogs from our cross-country expeditions to places like Moab and Yosemite.
That’s Trubi, our official mascot, a brindle Boxer who is nine years old at the time of this writing. He’s been on more trails than most humans and is a permanent fixture in the Tahoe. If you see us on the trail, he’s the one with his head out the window ready to say hello.
